A Centralia man was transported to an Olympia hospital Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle that was entering a construction zone on state Route 8 10 miles west of Olympia, according to Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle’s driver, Jerry L. Jones, 74, of Tumwater faces charges of hit and run, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

According to the state patrol, sometime before 8:41 a.m., a 1992 Buick Century driven by Jones was traveling southbound on Summit Lake Road approaching SR 8. The road was closed for construction, and the vehicle continued on through road closure signs.

A 48-year-old Centralia man on foot attempted to stop the vehicle, and was struck.

Jones allegedly left the scene. He was later arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the incident, according to WSP.
