A brand new refrigeration unit caught fire Friday afternoon at Centralia High School just after it was plugged in for the first time, said Ed Petersen, Centralia School District communications coordinator.

The cafeteria area of the high school filled with smoke and the school was briefly evacuated. Riverside Fire Authority crews responded and cleared the building, allowing students to return, just after 1 p.m.

No injuries were reported and there was no damage to the school, Petersen told The Chronicle. The office and lobby were closed for the remainder of the day.
