Bomb Threat Leads to Canceled Classes at Winlock High School

A bomb threat written on a shower wall in a Winlock High School locker room reported Wednesday morning prompted the district to send students home for the day.

Parents first reported to The Chronicle that an unspecified threat resulted in the evacuation of Winlock High School and that students were being sent home for the day.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the threat at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday and responded to the school, where they found a note written on a shower wall of the boy’s locker room that said, “Bomb, 12 o’clock,” Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey told The Chronicle.

“Apparently this note was on the wall for several days, or a couple days and it was reported today,” Kimsey said.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the threat.

Superintendent Dr. Richard Serns confirmed the school received a threat but as of 11:30 a.m. said the district does not believe it to be credible. School was canceled for the rest of the day.

An event scheduled for later in the day to commemorate students killed in the shooting last month at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida is still expected to take place.

This would be the second time this year the school has been evacuated due to a threat. On Feb. 9, the school was evacuated after a similar note on a bathroom mirror also threatened the school with a bomb.

Serns said he does not know who wrote the message in the locker room. He spoke with a few students and said the matter is still under investigation.
