Barn Fire in Tenino Kills Upwards of 20,000 Chickens

TENINO — A fire in Tenino Monday afternoon killed over 25,000 chickens.

Thurston County Fire District 12 responded to a blaze at Draper Valley Farms’ Tenino site at about 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Several fire departments responded to the call and found a 520-foot by 45-foot poultry barn engulfed in flames.

District 12 chief Andrew Schaffran reported that between 25,000 and 27,000 chickens were killed in the fire, which occurred at 16847 Gibson Road SW.

Schaffran reported the barn was a total loss, and the cause of the fire was unknown as of Monday evening.
