A body was found in the Skookumchuck River Sunday afternoon, and authorities say there is no obvious cause of death.

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Chief Dusty Breen said information available for public consumption is scarce — given the investigation is underway. He said the body was that of a 28-year-old transient Centralia woman.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, said Breen.

Deputies were called to the Skookumchuck River at 12:34 p.m. Sunday, near Schaefer Park in regards to a body in the river.

The woman was most recently living under a nearby bridge, said Breen, and her body was found close by.
