Department of Health Suspends Lewis County Nursing Assistant

The state Department of Health has suspended a Lewis County nursing assistant’s license for two years after she allegedly committed unprofessional conduct.

Ashley N. Edmonds was charged in February by the DOH’s Nursing Assistant Program with unprofessional conduct after reports about her conduct with residents of a long-term care facility where she worked.

Edmonds allegedly sprayed water in a resident’s face after the resident was uncooperative in the facility’s shower room. On another occasion, she allegedly put her hand over a resident’s mouth to stop her from yelling, and in another instance, reportedly got in a verbal altercation with a resident.

If Edmonds petitions to reinstate her nursing assistant credentials, she will be required to complete two hours of continuing education in patient rights and dignity, three hours of education on anger management and two hours of education in communicating with cognitively-impaired patients. She will also have to pay a fine of $250 prior to reinstatement of her credentials.
