Centralia Emergency Operations Center Offers Sandbags

The recently-activated Centralia Emergency Operations Center has set up a sandbagging area on Center Street and Pearl Street in Centralia for residents and business owners.

It opened Monday morning.

That was the only Centralia sandbag site as of 10 a.m. Monday. The EOC said that due to the flooding occurring in an isolated area, it was not very busy at that time.

Residents can purchase sandbags at Martin Sand and Gravel, Home Depot and Sunbirds, according to a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens should move animals to higher ground, if they live in flood prone areas.

At 7:40 a.m. Monday, the Lewis County Emergency Management Division announced it activated the Emergency Operations Center to prepare for flooding expected on the Newuakum and Chehalis Rivers.

Water was already flowing over the roadway in many areas along the Newaukum River. Motorists should not drive through deep water, and they should obey closed road signs, according to the press release.
