Orting Man Dies in Wrong-Way Freeway Crash South of Tacoma

    One person has died as the result of a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in southern Pierce County early this morning.

    Garrett M. Felt, 24, of Orting, collided head-on with a semi truck while driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5, south of the Berkeley Street exit in Lakewood. According to the Washington State Patrol, Felt drove nearly six miles in the wrong direction of travel and narrowly missed other vehicles before the fatal crash.



    The driver of the semi truck, Melvin Steufen, 60, was not injured in the collision. Felt was pronounced dead at the scene, and it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the wreck, according to the state patrol.
