The presidential search at Centralia College has attracted a lot of attention.

The college had 37 candidates for the position as of Thursday.

Interim President James Walton told the Centralia College Board of Trustees at its Thursday meeting that members on the Search and Review Committee will soon be submitting their top 10 candidates.

On March 22, the committee will talk about finalizing the process and will hopefully have 10 to 12 viable candidates, Walton said.

“It’s exciting how many candidates we have,” Joanne Schwartz, chairwoman of the board of trustees, said

The board will meet on April 20 to discuss the presidential evaluation form before they hire a new leader for the school.

Schwartz said the trustees want to look at executive limitations and end statements.

Walton was selected as interim president of the college in January after the termination of then president Robert Frost.

Frost became president in July 2014 and was fired in December. The board cited a lack of a strong working relationship between Frost and the trustees.
