Swiss Society Plans 50th Oktoberfest in Frances
The Lewis Pacific Swiss Society will host its 50th annual Oktoberfest at the Swiss Park in Frances on Oct. 5.
Festivities include European nine-pin bowling (the first perfect score of 27 wins $500), pinochle, horseshoe tournaments, children’s activities, Swiss dance lessons, a raffle, silent auction, vendors, crafts and a bake sale.
A bar and grill is open throughout the day and dinner is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Blaser Band will play polka music following dinner.
Prizes and awards will be presented to tournament winners followed by the coronation of the new Swiss Miss.
Park admission is free. Dance admission is $6 at the door or a $4 Octoberfest button, which can be purchased in advance.

Boo-coda Pine Box Derby Casket and Zombie Parade and Races presented by Eastside Big Tom, are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5. The Parade of Caskets Race will include teams of businesses, non-profits, schools and government agencies. Friends and families are invited to compete against each other. The races take place on Main Street in downtown Bucoda. The race course is 300 feet long. Casket Race teams must participate in the Pine Box Derby Casket and Zombie Parade. An announcer will read about each casket race team and zombie group.
