Chamber Orchestra Plans Concert at Corbet
The Pacific Northwest Chamber Orchestra will present a free concert entitled “Remembrance and Youthful Joy” at 7:30 p.m. June 10 at Centralia College’s Corbet Theatre.
In recognition of the 75th anniversary of D-Day and in appreciation for the sacrifices of the Allies as they began the campaign that ended Adolf Hitler’s reign of terror, the orchestra will perform Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” Conductor Joshua Friedlander will be accompanied by the orchestra as he performs selections from the musical theme of “Schindler’s List.”
PNCO will present two young musicians for the “Youthful Joy” portion of the concert. Joseph Chung, 15 is the son of Drs. Paul and Iris Chung, of Chehalis. He attends W.F. West High School and was a recent winner of the Southwest Washington Fair Junior Talent Show. He also is a member of the Chung Quintet along with his four siblings. Chung will be performing Saint-Saen’s “Cello Concerto in A Minor.”
Samuel Miller 16, of Onalaska, returns as piano soloist this year. Having won top spot among upper level piano students, Miller will represent Lewis County in the Washington State Music Teachers Association’s state conference on June 21. He is the son of Joshua and Allyson Miller and is home schooled. He plans to attend Centralia College as a Running Start student next year. Miller will be playing Haydn’s “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.”
Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo” and Alexander Borodin’s “Polovetsian Dances” will round out the evening.
