Borst Home Open House
The final Borst Home open house of this summer will include an informational program on friendship quilts and signature blocks, according to Borst Home volunteers.
The open house is scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the house in Centralia’s Fort Borst Park.
As always, volunteers and living historians will be at the house giving tours. The house, schoolhouse, carriage house and gardens will be open.
An informational program “Friendship Quilts and Signature Blocks” will take place starting at 2 p.m. The school bell will ring to signal the start of the program.
The Borst Home is open to visitors once a month from spring to fall. Admission is free but donations are accepted.
Knights Day Run
The Chehalis Knights of Columbus will sponsor what they hope will be their first annual Knights Day Run on Sept. 14 at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.
The 1-mile or 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m., with onsite registration starting at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $25 for the 5K or $30 on the day of the race and $15 for the 1-mile race or $20 the day of.
Registration includes a t-shirt. Awards and a drawing for prizes begin at 10 a.m.
Proceeds go to the Chehalis Knights of Columbus scholarship fund and the Special Olympics.

Down Home, a Toledo Shindig, is a fundraiser benefiting the Toledo School District children in need. Tickets at $25 per person. The event includes a barbecue dinner, live and silent auctions and music. The shindig starts at 4 p.m. at Bonanza Barbecue, 102 Kellogg Way, Toledo. Burnt Ridge Nursery and Orchards near Onalaska presents a fall farm tour 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be two tours, one from 10 a.m. to noon and one from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Join them for a public tour with founder Michael Dolan leading the way through 20 acres of organic fruits and nuts, with a special focus on elderberries, kiwi berries, and other fall fruits and nuts. Admission is $15 per person or $30 for a group of four. Limit of 30 guests will be strictly enforced due to parking limitations. Both tour groups will sample the fruits at the peak of their ripeness, with a focus on flavor, texture and nutrition. Chef John Camenzind will tickle taste buds with quick and easy treats. Live potted plants, certified organic produce and preserved foods will be available to purchase and take home as the event winds to a close. The Olympic Club in historic downtown Centralia presents Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day with food specials, drink specials and the band Trashcan Joe 7-10 p.m. which features two-step, blues and jazz. This is a free, all-ages event.
