Law enforcement is requesting the public’s assistance in locating an elderly Morton man suffering from dementia who has been missing since Friday morning, according to Morton police.

The 76-year-old man, identified as Larry Thorsteinson, was living at Heritage House, an assisted living facility at 860 W. Main Avenue in Morton, said Morton Police Officer Ron Myers. He was last seen there at about 11 a.m. Friday.

Two Code Red alerts were initiated on both Saturday and Sunday, Myers said, and the emergency system called about 1,200 people living in the Morton area in an attempt to alert the community to his disappearance. So far, he said Sunday afternoon, it has been unsuccessful.

Search and rescue K-9s tracked Thorsteinson’s trail to U.S. Highway 12 early Sunday afternoon where authorities believe he may have gotten a ride out of the area, Myers said.

Police are pretty close to eliminating the possibility that he is still in the area, but they will continue to look, Myers said.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call 911, and contact Lynnette Cannon at the Heritage House at (360) 496-6699 or (360) 508-5253.

Thorstein is a white man with gray hair who weighs approximately 180 pounds. He is 5-foot-10 and was last seen wearing a brown Carhartt hat and a brown Carhartt jacket.
