A recreational boater found “badly decomposed” human remains along the shore of Riffe Lake Wednesday evening, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
“At this time, it is unknown if the body is that of a male or female but it is believed to be an adult,” Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Commander Steve Aust reported this morning.
Detectives are on the scene processing evidence, he said. Aust said they don’t know how long the body has been there or who it might be.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do to determine that,” Aust said, adding, “We don’t think it’s any of the missing-person cases that we know of.”
The body was found in a remote corner of the lake. Aust said detectives are staging from U.S. Highway 12 about a half mile east of Mossyrock Dam, to get to the site.
