The jury has returned a guilty verdict of first-degree murder in the case against Weston G. Miller. Chronicle reporter Stephanie Schendel is on scene at Lewis County Superior Court and will provide updates as they become available.

Miller, 30, was accused of premeditated murder for the shooting of 43-year-old David W. Carson on March 13, 2012.

Chronicle reporter Stephanie Schendel has been present for the trial and will report the verdict as soon as it is revealed from Lewis County Superior Court.

Miller pleaded not guilty by reason of self defense, claiming he shot Carson after the 43-year-old lunged at him with a knife.

Miller is charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony that can carry a maximum penalty of life in prison if he’s convicted. Jurors also have the option of convicting Miller of second-degree murder, a lesser crime, if they believe he did not premeditate the killing but still intentionally caused the death.
